Role description

The Project Director for a Data Center will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and successful delivery of the project, including construction, expansion, upgrades, or retrofits. This role involves managing budgets, timelines, resources, and stakeholders while ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices. The Project Director serves as the primary decision-maker, driving strategic direction and operational excellence for data center projects.

Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Develop and implement project plans, including scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Oversee all phases of the project lifecycle, from initiation to closure.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, industry standards, and organizational goals.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead cross-functional teams, including project managers, engineers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Assign roles and responsibilities and provide guidance to ensure team alignment.
  • Monitor team performance and foster a culture of accountability and collaboration.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership, clients, and stakeholders to align project objectives with org. goals.
  • Communicate project progress, challenges, and milestones effectively to all stakeholders.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, contractors, and regulatory authorities.

Financial Oversight:

  • Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring cost efficiency.
  • Approve expenditures and negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers.
  • Identify and resolve budget overruns or financial risks.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure adherence to environmental, safety, and security protocols.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to verify quality and performance.
  • Oversee commissioning and testing of data center systems to ensure operational readiness.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in project management, with at least 5 years in data center or large construction projects
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale data center projects on time and within budget.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Deep understanding of data center design, construction, and operational best practices.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, or similar).
  • Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g., Uptime Institute, ANSI/TIA, ASHRAE).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Certifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • LEED certification or familiarity with sustainable building practices is a plus.
  • Relevant technical certifications (e.g., CDCP, CDCS) are advantageous.
